Increasing IE7 Browsing Speed

Good morning
I have a question on tweaking the registry default to 10. When I read this on one of the web pages I thought maybe this would help my browsing speed.

Trick to Increase Internet Explorer Speed

1. Go to Start –> Run and type regedit
2. Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER –> Software –> Microsoft –> Windows –> Current Version –> Internet Settings
3. Increase the values (DECIMAL) from default to a higher value e.g. 10

See the difference in speed of IE

I'm just new at this and only want to make sure when I find internet setting in the registry I simply delete the (Default) word and replace it with e.g. 10 or just the number 10. I did notice that on that same line on the right side it say no value set I'm sure that the number does not go there due to this area will not high light to replace the info in that spot. This is probably a no brainer but like I said I'm just checking with your expertise first before I do something that maybe I'm not doing correctly.

Thank you

Did you look at the reg entry you posted? When I look at it, I see MANY different keys that can be changed...I think you're missing an important part of the tweak.

Hi EzyStvy--Thank you for your reply and you know your the second person today that said the same exact thing. All I know is what I read is what I copied to the Post or Thread. Well, if thats the case the person who wrote the instructions down had left part of it out.

While I have you could you think of something I could do to speed up my boot time. I done the Bootvis and deleted all the files that were unnecessary etc.

Thanks EzyStvy

Have to admit I cheated
I saw your thread on another site (windowsbbs)

How long does it take to bootup?
Having USB devices plugged in can cause a delay.

To lower boot times, disable startup programs. Use msconfig

Also look at blackviper for services that can be disabled.

If your system is working fine (no resource issue) but you're just getting worried about boot times .. then why not use alternates to shutting down? Like hibernate or sleep.

Use a Windows 2000 machine for a few days - then you won't be complaining about your boot times.

Smile Internet browsing plus boot increase

Hello to all who gave me suggestions in speeding up my browsing and while I was doing that I was able to do a few tweaks and speeded up my boot time. I found a website pc whiz kids video's online and watching all of there viedeo's which I was able to do everything from tweaking the start up to the boot.ini adjusting the time down to 3 seconds on msconfig. even went through my services and knock a good bit of time off by trimming this area. I found another download for defrag. the one utility XP has is OK but I have to admit this jkDfrag.3.36.zip free program for me done a beautiful job on my files. Also done a couple other adjustments on my memory etc. and even when back in the registry and did some tweaks on the device manager which has increased my boot. Mostly everything I spoke of is on that website I had spoken earlier.

Shadowpr thanks for the blackviper suggestion this one looks real good.

Once again I thank everyone for your input.
