Outlook Express 6 and .msg question

Hey,

I'm trying to open some emails that were saved as .msg's for my father, but they won't open in Outlook Express 6 (which is what is on his laptop). They're saved on his external hard drive and not from another account, so importing them into Outlook doesn't work. I tried simply dragging and dropping but it only brings up a new email window with the file saved as an attachment. Right-clicking the file and telling it to open with Outlook does nothing.

Any ideas on how I can get these emails to open?

EDIT: They won't open in Windows Mail in Vista either.

If you right click on one of them and select Open With, do you see an option to open with Outlook? (not outlook express)

No, I could only find Outlook Express, and that was by browsing for it.
