Connect To Home Computer
I don't know if this is possible but here is the situation. I live in SC but I'm in NV for 3 weeks. Is there a way I could connect to my home desktop? If I got the IP for it could I connect to it somehow and get files from it?

Their main product, Logmein Free, enables your to view the screen of the remote computer, similar to GoToMyPC or PCAnywhere. You'll need to install it on both systems. The free version doesn't allow native file transfers, so you'll need to email them to yourself, if you can manage it. If you're looking for something that works more like a traditional VPN, try Logmein Hamachi. Once again, you'll need to install it on both machines. Hamachi sets up a virtual network using its own IP address range, and you can drag and drop just like a network drive. Both are available at logmein.com. If you're looking for a good combination of both of the above, Logmein Pro is your best bet, but it's not free ($69.95/year). HTH, Dave |

Logmein free only has to be installed on the computer you want to access. So if you have a desktop at home, and a laptop on the road, it only has to be installed on the desktop, and you can log on to the website with the laptop to control the desktop.

If you have a static IP address, you can use remote desktop (remember to forward the port in your router)
Otherwise, you can use logmein.com like FooseinSB and shadow said.

I will try the logmein site first because I would have to have my wife setup the static IP and she is not that knowledgeable. But when I get back I will try it. What port do I forward?

I do believe the newest version of TightVNC allows file transfers.
http://www.tightvnc.com/ Also you should look at HFS http://www.rejetto.com/hfs/ Or setting up a quick FTP server on your system http://www.snapfiles.com/get/quickeasyftpserver.html |

You can also just set up two chat clients and send files that way. Avoids needing an IP address or port forwarding.

If you set up 2 clients (AIM, etc.) you will still need free Logmein so you can operate both machines, unless your wife wants to sit in front of the machine and initiate transfers while you have her on the phone.

I run freeNAS setup for FTP, with a DynDNS. Used to have a FTP server setup on my desktop, with a DynDNS, very quick to setup.
