replacing directory server
Our directory/domain server is very old and about to go out.
If I were to replace it, could I just shut down the old one, then rename the new one with the same computer name/IP addy setup domain controller add all the accounts/clients and let er rip ![]() btw, some of you may get a kick out of this, I never really looked to closely at this old server, it is an old Compaq Prolient (dual 400MHz cpu's) I guess one of the IT persons (no longer working with us) set it up long ago, but it's setup using a RAID 0 ![]() with 6 drives even ![]() all I can do is laugh I guess, but who the heck sets up a server with 6 SCSI drives on a RAID 0

nope. You either have to add the new one as a primary domain controller and synch up all the services, or migrate to a new domain controller.
You'll have problems if you just drop the old one and stick in a new one, especially if you use more than just AD services (DNS, shared printers, file sharing permissions, DHCP, IIS, etc)
