Java on Firefox

Yesterday I updated the Java plug-in on Firefox 3.0.7. When I checked Tools/Add-ons the following plug-ins were found:
Java Platform SE 6 U11 SE binary
Java Platform SE plug-in 1.6.0_11 for Netscape Navigator (DLL helper)

Also one extension:
Java quick starter

Is all this necessary? If I disabled Java what functions would fail?

When I updated about a month ago, I just used a tool called JavaRa which goes in and deletes all previous versions of Java that it finds (If you have any REALLY old versions, you may have to delete them through the Add/Remove Programs area, because JavaRa only finds versions back to like version 5 or so, IIRC). Anyway, I let it delete the old versions then I downloaded the most current Java HERE and installed it and everything works fine now. So, no, you shouldn't need any previous versions if you get the most current up-to-date version (which is version 6 update 12, I believe).

Thanks for the information.
