setting up Outlook

Guys
Im trying to setup my e-mail account on outlook. My job is setup with there own main server and domain witch gives me a christopher@companyname.com address. We mainly work from remote desktop sessions where IT has setup everyone's outlook so we just log on from any ware and its all there. However I send a lot of pictures and the wait time for attaching is long as hell.
Even with the smallest size pictures. I need to setup my outlook on my local machine. Iv done it at home using the mail servers IP as incoming and smtp.rcn.com as outgoing. I have a computer in my shop Id also like to have locally but nothing I type in the outgoing works. We have a massive network there that involves video cameras , Voice over IP floaters and of coarse the router. I think that's distorting the ability to setup my outgoing.

My question is?
Is there a free SMTP server I can type in to the outgoing in outlook that will make it work. My ISP says because of the activity with in the network they can not help.

Thanks in advance for any help

There will only be 2 SMTP's that you can use - your ISP's (RCN?) or your domain's - and the domain's must use an alternate port because your ISP will block port 25. Either one may require authentication.

I see , So I should give smtp.mycompanyname.com a try. or it could be outgoing.mycompanyname.com

Right...

I dont know if I can doing anything about the ports. I wouldn't want to touch that network. It took the techs days to get it all right.

In Outlook->Advanced Account Settings is where you'd try the port suggestions that GLC mentioned.

If you wanted to use your company's SMTP, you need to find out the settings from your IT people. You can't just wing it.

Are you sending the pictures to the same person(s) or many different people? If you have a small group of people I would look into setting up an FTP site of some kind. It is way better for sending large files.
