Turn off your antivirus's outgoing email scanning. It's timing out waiting for the attachment to clear.

I have disabled the scanning of outgoing attachments (AVG) but I can still not send photos.

Can you post the complete exact error message, please? I have had problems with AVG's email scanner myself - try uninstalling AVG completely as a test. You have to get the proxy completely out of the picture.

Suddenly the program is working, don't know why. Thank you once again.

In addition to the previous comment although my emails are now being sent they disappear very very slowly. Is there any way I can speed things up?

That's what was happening with me with AVG. Uninstalling it fixed it, I switched to Avira which doesn't use an email scanner. Even with AVG's email scanner turned off, it was slow as molasses. Try uninstalling AVG completely as a TEST. I don't know WHY it caused it, but this fixed it.
