Problem with my connection speed

Hi all,

I have the following problem.
I used to have a desktop at home, hooked up to my landlady's router. And the connection speed never gave me any trouble. When running a speed test it would result in 2-3 mb/s.
That desktop pc broke down, so I bought a new notebook. I hooked it up to the exact same ethernet cable my desktop used, but the internet speed is slower than on a 26k modem. JUst managing to go into the website to runa speed test was a real hassle. And the result was 0.01 mb/s. And that's when it was fast enough to actually go into the site.

I'm guessing it must be some sort of configuration issue.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

You don't need to double post, check your post in the networking section.
