fqpissed MSN Messenger Won't Go Away

I have a Gateway laptop running Vista. Upon boot up, MSN Messenger shows up running on my desktop. How do I make this go away? I do not want MSN Messenger running at start-up.

Thanks.

If you have a messenger account you can tell messenger to not start with Windows in Tools>Options, the "Tools" tab is not available until you log in.
The other option is to install Ccleaner (which is a good idea any way because it's one of the best free tools for keeping your machine running clean and fast) and in the Tools> StartUp section remove messenger from the startup list.

Ccleaner is a free tool available here:

I could send a few people I know there. That might work because when they enter a room everyone goes away.

Unhappy

Downloaded cccleaner and have run it many, many times. Have disabled MSNMessenger and deleted as well using the ccleaner tool. But after a few boot cycles, it just comes back like a bad rash.

Anyone know how to get rid of MSNMessenger at start-up?

Someone told me they actually went to the messenger file, and renamed it so it couldn't start up.

Make sure Windows Mail is not set to run Messenger on startup.

Tom. I got this script a few years ago from Microsoft to help me uninstall messenger 4.7 that comes bundled with XP.

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Copy and paste that line of text into your 'Run' box in 'Start' and click OK. What I have found is that it uninstalls 4.7 completely and renders any other version of messenger useless requiring a reinstall to get it working again. It does not uninstall later versions of messenger but it does render them harmless.

Geez, and there is me writing batch files opening IE and MSN at the same time. Generally this is a windows messenger problem usually fixed in "settings" but the above scenarios work just as well.
