Browsing to a domain under an alias without changing HOSTS

I'm doing a project where the host of my site needs to be a specified domain (not localhost). I can achieve this by modifying the Hosts file to alias my 127.0.0.1 as a www.alias.com domain.

I was wondering if there's any way to do it on the fly without modifying hosts. I'm wondering if there's a way to specify it in the url in some way?
