Starting A Site
The most complicated part is what to have a site for. I have always wanted a site and and I remember when I was younger I had a geocities site. I have different ideas but I'm not sure it will be successful. Here are a few ideas I had and give me your thoughts or even more ideas.
* I'm a big Atlanta sports fan. I want to retire and move to the Atlanta area. I thought about having a site dedicated for the Atlanta sport teams. The draw back is the user base might be limited a bit. * I have thought about having a gaming community. I have been playing online games since I was 14 or so. I thought about having a gaming community based on the military since I like structure. This could get expesive if the user base does not grow. I have been hesitant to go this route because of this reason alone. * Personal Blog. I'm not big on this one because I like working with vbulletin. vbulletin now has a built in blog which cost extra so I could always include that. This is what I have thought of so far. My wife should be able to help creating graphics because I'm just not that great at that or I have also thought about paying someone to design the site for me. The thing is i'm worried about traffic and advertising the site. Any ideas, comments, thoughts would be appreciated. |

The most complicated part is what to have a site for-> been there done that.
I want to retire and move to the Atlanta area.-> Don't you have about 40 years till you retire? I have different ideas but I'm not sure it will be successful. Guess you'd have to define successful....I'd build the site around something I'm passionate about and hope others people that are passionate about the same thing find it. The other option is to build the site around what you think other people are passionate about.

No. I can retire at the age of 39 if I want to. Benefits from the military. I could stay in longer if I want to and if rank permits. Only time will tell

The need to make a website struck me last summer. I decided to go with a Detroit sports site, which is also something that I'm very passionate about.
Long story short: I dished out $150 or so, it took me forever to get the site up and running in the summer due to my full time job, and I was unable to sustain it after that due to 18-credit engineering semesters with a part-time job on top of that. My only advice is to make sure that you are really committed to it and are patient. |

If I do a gaming community my wife plays games as well and she can help out with little things. She don't work so she has plenty of free time. We don't have kids either.
