IE 7 Will not load

I have a Dell Dimension 4500S that I've managed to salvage. I put a used hdd and installed win XP from a dell CD. All works fine except IE does not load. I am currently using FF as a browser but Belarc say there are 88 updates I need from MS. When I try is when I get this MSG.

IE has encountered an error and has to close. When I look at the details it seems to be related to the file "ntdll.dll". I couldn't find anything on MS's website concerning this file related to IE.

Any suggestions?

Can you uninstall IE7 and revert back to IE6? That's all you need to get updates with.
