IE8 Built In Google search will not open in a new tab
I would like the built in search toolbar to open my google search in a new tab when I press enter. However, it just uses whatever tab is open. This is very annoying. I haven't been able to find a setting that will let you open the search in a new tab. Does this setting exist?

Nope. You need to hit a new tab first.

Thanks. I guess I'll just have to get used to the google toolbar taking up some extra space at the top of IE8 then.

You don't need google toolbar. You can use IE's built-in search bar and change the search provider to google.

Is it THAT difficult to hit Ctrl+T before typing in a search term?

I have already accidentally searched for something in the same tab after spending over 5 minutes typing a reply in a forum. I installed google toolbar so I don't keep wasting my time trying to remember what I typed.

You can click the back button. *usually* the text is still there.

I tried that the time I mentioned and the text was gone. I have found that text I entered usually is not there when I click back.

You can hit "alt + enter" when searching from the built in toolbar and it will open in a new tab.
Found that by reading IE quick reference sheet, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro.../quickref.mspx Jon |
