Outlook Express 6 bug?
Just thought I'd run pass you a problem I had.
I have Outlook Express 6 and yesterday all my POP accounts were chucking up errors when they were trying to connect. I presumed at first it was a problem with my ISP and so checked the server status. As there were no report of any problems I e-mailed them about it. I recieved an e-mail back saying they were sure there were no problems their end. Therefore I then checked my account settings. I found that for all accounts the POP server was changed to 127.0.0.1, as this is the local host obviously it was returning errors. In addition the username had the pop server appended separated by a forward slash. Obviously I changed back all these settings and all works fine again. Question is do you think this a bug with Outlook Express 6 or could it be to do with the e-mail protection provided by Norton AV (poproxy) that has been giving me problems ("Poproxy has made an illegal action and will be shut down")? Your opinions would be appreciated. Last edited by dj4uk; 11-22-2001 at 02:59 AM. |

Yes, it's the AV program, it creates a loopback proxy at localhost to filter mail with before it hits your inbox. Just kill the mail proxy option in the AV program and change your mail servers back to their proper names.

Thanks for that.
Is there anyway I can fix it so it doesn't happen again but allows me to keep using the e-mail protection? |

Uninstall and reinstall Norton AV - if poproxy crashes you will get the errors you describe.
