Migrating email from Outlook 2003 to Thunderbird

I was wondering if anyone has tried moving a user's mail from Outlook 2003 to Thunderbird. Is there anything in particular that works well or that I should avoid?

We'll see how well Open Office replaces the rest of Microsoft Office

You should be able to just install thunderbird, and when it starts up the first time, it should ask you if you want to import mail from somewhere. Outlook should be listed as an option if it's still installed.
