My cable company sent letters and e-mails to everyone asking to do a conversion. It meant changing the e-mail settings; instead of name @ home.com being the addy, it's samename @ somethingelse.com, web pages have to be moved.

Even if you don't go link dead, I wouldn't be stuck with cable right now if you have an alternative. Time Warner is being moved from AT&T to AOL's network, @home going bankrupt and who knows what AT&T will do with the network if they do acquire all of it.
Dark days, people, dark days. Two things are certain. Reliable and usable broadband for the home won't be cheap anymore. The backbone providers are winning, the users along with their ISPs are losing. Maybe one of these days we'll wake up and realize that the free market ain't so free, especially when 30 or so companies have a stranglehold on the entire American communications infrastructure via the price fixing of bandwidth .

IF you live in the south there is hope yet, charter communications who sponsors @home has broadband of its own known as "pipeline". they are saying that if @home folds there should be a smooth transition. of course this does not help every one.

You know what pi$$e$ me off
THe fact that because I HAD @home Service I lost all of my other email addresses due to the fact that the only addresses they kept were the primary emails that people set when they signed up. After I move I am 99% sure I will be going to DSL or something besides AT&T

Trukdrv I believe that will be true of most cable co's. now that they have breathing room till the 28th. of February. Insight is telling me the same thing. There will be a ISP provider come Mar. 1 and that within a year a choice of ISP's to choose from. What they are not telling me is what the cost will be. I agree with Xayd. I just hope I can justify the cost come March.

Confused, The transition for me was smooth from @home to Charter.I must give them credit there was no lapse in service. the only thing I have noticed is a price increase. Its like they have got you. I have had @home for several years and I have come to depend on the bandwidth. so I did not have much choice so I signed up. The rates are fair , and they offer three tiers 256,512 and 1.5mps. I hope its as easy for everyone else as it was for me.
