Most of those programs are spyware and just about all have banners that must reload from some server in god-knows-where.

How can something that displays banners increase your speed by using bandwidth to load said banners?

Yes it is always good to know that a simple small program can make the copper in your phone wires or coaxial cable not to mention all the modems down at your ISP's facility suddenly work faster.
It's nothing but spyware, which is the lowest of the low on the internet.
