Free or Low Cost File Sharing Site
We recently developed an alliance among 4 non profit social service agencies across Florida and are looking for a free or low cost FTP type site to upload files, documents, etc. that we can share and edit by all members.
Any recommendations? Thanks! |

I was going to mention Dropbox too. I used it for the first time Sunday. It is fast, easy and convenient.

Dropbox also has a referral program where, if you refer someone to signup, you both get an extra 250M of storage so 2 of the agencies could refer the other 2, then all would have 2.25G of storage.
They are also testing a new beta version and you can get up to an additional 5G just for testing the beta version of their software.

I installed Dropbox for a different reason - to allow me to copy files from my PC to my Android phone. I use it as a MP3 player, with my MP3's stored on the phone's micro SD card. For some reason, I can't get the Motorola software to do a direct connect. So, I use Dropbox when I need to add files to the phone. I could pull the SD card and connect it to the PC with a reader, but I hate popping the Otterbox open to do it.

Agreed Dropbox works very well for sharing files.
If your goal is that others can easily edit a document, I highly recommend Google docs. You upload the document and then share it with whoever you want, giving then editing permissions and then anyone can edit easily. There won't be any problems with one person's changes getting overwritten by someone else because they were working on it around the same time and saved it. You can see who else is viewing the document at the same time and you will actually see where they have their cursor and anything they type is updated live letter by letter.

Thanks folks; I'll have our group look at both Dropbox and Google docs.
