IE6 setup fails
Compaq tech told me to reinstall ME to fix a prob.Done.Now I've lost IE6 but still have OE6.IE5.5 on now.reinstall of IE6 fails.re-downloaded IE6 setup,fails.MS article said run in dos,edit wininit.ini change to wininit.nin to get rid of "a previous program install was never completed" (IE6)Done. Tried reinstall again fails. Says all files present close all apps and try again.Close all but sys tray,explorer. Disabled Norton.IE6 will not complete install. Tech said reinstall would not delete any apps??? Presario 5000,OEM win ME

If 5.5 working, use it. I've tried both, and successful, but 5.5 is just as good (better?), imho.

I would keep IE5.5 sp2. Used 6, and it's too buggy, so I went back to 5.5. Especially keep 5.5 if you are using outlook express. It's update for OE were nothing but trouble for me.

Outhouse Express IS a bug itself and very susceptible to viruses. IE 6 has proven, to me, to be as stable as IE 5.5. But I don't use Outhouse, so can't comment further in that area.
