Suggestions for setting up a Forum.

Hi guys,

I have just put together a simple HTML website for a Blind and Visual Impairment Society.

They would now like me to arrange a Help and Advice forum. I've tried making a trial forum at EZBoard (the ethos of which I quite like) but the default font size is too small. I need size 4 for text.

http://www.ezboard.com/

I'm waiting to hear if it is possible to increase the font size to 4 for normal text on their templates.

Does anyone know if this is possible with EZBoard or know of any other "make your own forum" sites that might give me a bit of flexibilty text-wise.

A free one would be good but they do not mind paying a nominal amount providing there are no ads or popups.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Mike.

Hi mike,

I don't know if you can customize the ezboard styles, but there are many free no-ad forum software that allow you to customize almost every aspec, including colors, fonts, etc. You need to have a server that supports the software needed (ASP, Perl, or PHP), but they're faily easy to install. Here are some good ones to check out:

http://www.ikonboard.com/newindex.iB/
http://forum.snitz.com/
http://phorum.org/

Most use a style sheet to set the font size, all you have to do is edit the file and change the size for the specific text you want bigger.

Hope that helps.

Hi Doc,

The Webhosting they have at the moment is very basic and would not accomodate a forum, that's why I thought of just having a link on their site to a forum on another server like EZBoard. This would be my ideal "hassle-free" solution.

However, if I cannot find a more flexible, "ready-made" alternative to EZBoard, then I will have to get them to upgrade their Web Hosting and do it myself.

I'll guess I'd better start studying your links - just in case.

Thanks for your help.

EZBoard sells out the emails of all registrees to spammers, so know that as well .

Ikonboard can use a flatfile database, no access to MySQL or any other such database server needed, as long as you have use of perl it'll work.

It's very easy to customize as well, so would probably do you nicely (also free).

Yeah, I will not sign up with a site that uses EZBoard. Look at all the information that you must give them to register. Compare this to the info that Vbulletin requires for you to register.
