Exclamation Windows Protection Error

I often (3+ times a week) get random "Windows Protection Error...You must Restart Your Computer" black screen lockups while surfing the Internet (Not in gaming or other apps). Currently running IE 5.5. Is there a setting I need to adjust? A driver conflict?

Confused

Thanks

Sounds frustrating. You are probably right about driver. Here's an informative article on Protection errors that may shed some light:

Thanks for the article, but my problem never occurs during boot up or shut down. My computer could be up for days and then one day, "Boom". Black-screen lock up. Again, this only happens via the Internet so I suspect IE 5.5.

Any other similiar experiences?

That's life with Windows I guess

I've since upgraded to IE6 and that problem has gone away.. ((shrug)) maybe you could try that if you can sit thru the download?

You could also run the Internet Explorer repair tool. Go to add/remove programs and click on Internet Explorer. Click the add remove button and it will ask you if you want to remove it and restore the previous version or repair the current installation. Select the repair option and run it.

Thumbs up

Maybe...

Windows file checker utility found a corrupt "something-or-other".dll file and repaired it from the CD. Maybe dat be it?! Time will tell...

BTW azscary, I did not see IE in the add/remove list? Different OS?
