OK, lets help a fellow member, Kassia.
Check out the thread here at forumclick. Fellow member Kassia is unable to post here, or at some other sites and can't figure out why.

Hal,
If she is using IE6, maybe the cookie setting in Tools>Privacy is set too secure. Carl |

Hal
After reading her post, I would suggest that she, first go to the internet options and reset everything to the default values, and if that doesn,t work use the repair IE function located in the System Tools and also update to the latest version of Virtual Machine. I have seen stuff like this when you get Pop-ups that try and make Auto Bookmarks or change your homepage. Which brings me to the idea that maybe she should download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.com and run it to see if something like flyswat, comet cursor, or some other spyware has infected the browser. |

Hey HAL,
What about this: Try deleting the HOSTS file (usually in the Windows folder). It's used by IE to help match DNS with IP. If something got screwed up in there, she might not be able to get to the forum pages. -Craig |

Okay, looks like the HOSTS file didn't work.
My only other thought is some sort of virus is playing with her system (or her ISP's server) since she says it's happening on other sites as well. -Craig |

Since she found Comet Cursor on your computer it may have overwritten portions of your registry. And some other spywares will cause page faults. Go to the link below, download and run the comet cursor cleaner, DSSAGENT Cleaner, and the uninstall the Radiate program. This is the location of the cleaners or instructions
http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/spyware.htm This is Microsoft information on radiate and the cleaner link http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/spyware.htm This is the Information page on DSSAGENT http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q296077 |

Thank you, morriswingate, for the info! I've added them to my fav list, gonna definitely need them in the future. I used the comet uninstaller
. But, I definitely think this hasn't been my week. First my fan goes, then my browser goes nuts, then last night, I got a virus while surfin the net!! Thank God Norton caught it! The darn thing didn't want to be cleaned, repaired, or even quarantined. Norton was finally able to quarantine, but couldn't repair it. So I deleted the darn thing. I figured if it screwed up one of my programs I'd just reinstall it. Wasn't about to leave the thing on my computer. Ran a virus scan...came up clean. Everything seems to be running fine. The computer started up this morning...definitely a good thing. Ran another virus scan...and . Maybe there's hope for me after all!

And the nutty browser still doesn't work properly yet. It's still really hard for me to post and edit. This post took me 4 tries. This is very very strange.

There are some Pop-ups here lately that are triggering Norton AV. It will come up and you cannot repair, clean or Quarantine. They tend not to do anything other than try to place Auto - Bookmarks and that is the reason that Norton is reacting to them.

I had a similar problem with my @home provider. I could display account information, but couldn't update, and it turned out my date/time was messed up. PC showed correct date/time but time zone was wrong. Right click your time, click adjust date/time. Check time and also check zone.

I hope this post makes it....
Blushing big time here, cobra! Thank you so much for the awesome compliment!! It seems my date/time is correct. But, observation here, I haven't deleted the cookies from here or forumclick...now when I go to forumclick I'm automatically logged in...it says "Welcome back, Kassia" at the top of the page. Here, even though I still have the original cookie, I still have to log in. And when I'm looking thru the posts, then go back to the main forum page I see that I've be logged out and must log in again. It's like the pcmech cookie isn't registering to my browser. Initially, I was running IE6, then I went back to IE5.5, it worked for about 3 or 4 posts on pcmech then pooped out again. I reinstalled IE6, the browser seems to work on the other sites, forumclick included, just not here. Last edited by Kassia; 12-19-2001 at 09:29 AM. |

Can you say "Netscape"?
Just kidding ![]() Something I just noticed on my PC -- may be totally unrelated or totally related -- in my Windows/Temp folder are a ton of files labeled forumpost, forumpost-1, forumpost-2.... and they all related to most postings here at PCMechanic. Here's a sample of one out of Notepad: Content-type: multipart/form-data; boundary=---------------------------63341846741 Content-Length: 1944 -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="s" 201ab5072f5ea71fd5b6d5a9d67c2859 -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="title" -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="iconid" 0 -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="mode" 0 -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="status" Alter the SIZE of your text -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="message" I't not too bad -- but it lacks Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby DTS so the best you'll get is Dolby Pro-logic Surround. My experience for equipment at BestBuy is to wait unti after Christmas and check their open-box selection -- stuff people returned for whatever reason (generally they don't put out non-working equipment - if they do and you get one, return it and complain -- you'll usually get the real thing in a box). You'll get really good deals because they need to get all that stuff off the shelves quickly. -Craig -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="parseurl" yes -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="signature" yes -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="MAX_FILE_SIZE" 2097152 -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="attachment"; filename="" Content-Type: application/octet-stream -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="action" postreply -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="threadid" 23091 -----------------------------63341846741 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="submit" Submit Reply -----------------------------63341846741-- The weird part is they are all protected -- I can't delete them until I re-boot which peeves me off -- I haven't had to re-boot my system in months but now I've got all these files that are starting to take up a ton of room! The one's I deleted last night accounted for almost 1 Meg of disk space. I'm wondering if this is happening to others and could it be a part of why our Cute Canadian Devil is having troubles. -Craig |
