DSL response time
I use Verizon's dsl on my computer, and a lot of times when I open my browser or try to connect to ICQ or AIM, it takes a minute or two for the DSL to kick in. This only happens on this computer, on my HP it doesn't happen. I've tried a bunch of tweaks at speedguide, but nothing seems to help.

i'm using winpoet. I can't get raspppoe to work, and I dont see how the PPPoE client would matter because this problem doesn't happen on my other computer using winpoet as well.

My guess is that it is the NIC. Are the NIC's the same in both computers? The other possibility is the cat5 cable or the connectors. I assume that both computers are networked together? Check for a loose or bad connection in the cabling or a bad port in the switch, or somewhere in the netwok setup. Is the length of cable from the slower computer longer than the HP or does it pass close to an RF source??

I think azscary is right. I had the same problem with my DSL. As it turn out, I am a very cheap built-in NIC.
