IE vs. Netscape
Hi all,
I had been a dedicated IE user for many years. Couple of weeks ago, I downloaded Netscape 6.2. I like it better, as it seems faster. Have a few problems, though. Being somewhat security-minded, I have been running Pop-Up Stopper and Ad-Aware for some time. Unfortunately, neither works with Netscape. Anyone know of some good, comparable programs? I've visited some major download sites. Tried out a few 'pop-up stopper' programs (Pop-Up Cleaner, for one), but none did the trick. Doesn't seem to be ANYthing similar to Ad-Aware. Any help would be appreciated. |

Hi,
A browser comparable to Netscape (the newer Netscape is based on it in fact), is mozilla. Check out www.mozilla.org Another free and fast browser is opera. www.opera.com I'm not sure but maybe your programs will work with either of these two. HTH |

Hi Floppyman,
Not sure about Mozilla, but since Netscape is based on it, I would guess no, though I may try it anyhow. Tried Opera. Pop-Up Stopper did not work. Thanks for the suggestions, though. |

IE all the way! Netscape 6 is a bloated, messy, waste of a single byte on my computer! Thats just my opinion though, I used to use netscape, but IE 5 and up have totally changed my mind.

I personally prefer my IE6, but it started to give me trouble. There's a thread here, that the guys were trying to help me with my IE probs. For some reason, I couldn't post on PCmech. I still like to use IE, but noticed I have probs with other sites as well...don't have a clue why! We never did solve it. I downloaded Netscape 6.2...it works...I can post now...and have access to the other sites IE6 had probs with. I think it's a matter of preference. I would rather use the IE6, but will use the Netscape until I can figure out what went wrong with the IE6 browser.

It seems that M$ has not being doing things right lately.
I know of other people that has been having problems with IE6 and Outlook Express 6. And there's all the people that had to reformat their HDs because of that nasty thing called DirectX 8. I've been very reluctant to try any of the two.

Used IE 5.5 and now IE 6.0 on 3 pc's. Wifey likes NS 4.74 for her mail. Never use what some call Outhouse Express for mail. I use web-based email. Never a problem with any of the 3. I use Opera for a change of pace and never used any pop up stoppers.

IE paints an illusion of speed, because it loads itself like a full bladder every time your PC gets up in the morning
. Hence it's always running, no load time.Try IE on a Solaris machine and you'll see how ridiculous it truly is. |

Just an update. Netscape crashed, this morning (wouldn't open), and I couldn't fix it, no matter what I did. So I'm back to IE. Netscape was acting kinda flaky, anyhow (sometimes slow, sometimes not).

Ironic that Netscape pushed the suits about the IE browser being free and NS had to be purchased. "Not fair", they said. So what did they do? They had a great series of Communicators, sold out to AOHell, now they're a piece of unstable junk (in my ever so humble opinion). She uses NS, but the versions back when they worked. Everytime I try one of the "new and improved" versions, it has a life span of 1 day before I uninstall it.
I use other browsers for a change of pace (Opera and Mozilla) but use IE mainly. |
