I remember having AOL back in 1993. Before the Browser! That year I only noticed the buzz word "online", not "www". Then after 1995 it all changed with Netscape Navigator...the internet could be visted non-stop.
Is this timeline correct? 1993: I used my external modem to dial up AOL and I was limited to visiting links included in their website. To visit other websites, I had to dial them using Quicklink. 1995: AOL introduced their browser, which allowed me to type in the URL and go to any site I wanted. Once I got on those sites, I could click on any hyperlink and go directly to the next site. 1996: My ISP was now only necessary to connect the browser of my choice to the internet. I didn't need AOL's content anymore. 2001: I signed up for ADSL and ROCKED!

Sounds about right to me. You a bulletin board boy? I remember my MUDing days and I'm not talking about offroad driving.
