OC = The Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) includes a set of signal rate multiples for transmitting digital signals on optical fiber. The base rate (OC-1) is 51.84 Mbps. Certain multiples of the base rate are provided as shown in the following table. Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) makes use of some of the Optical Carrier levels
The T-carrier system, introduced by the Bell System in the U.S. in the 1960s, was the first successful system that supported digitized voice transmission. The original transmission rate (1.544 Mbps) in the T-1 line is in common use today in Internet service provider (ISP) connections to the Internet. Another level, the T-3 line, providing 44.736 Mbps, is also commonly used by Internet service providers. Another commonly installed service is a fractional T-1, which is the rental of some portion of the 24 channels in a T-1 line, with the other channels going unused. As far as the above and you> These are normally for business as they are costly and in the case of OC, most companies have messages stating that individuals and students should not waste their time. As an individual user you are pretty much limited to Dial-up, DSL, Satellite, and Cable Services |

Ok, Thank you allot for explaining that for me.
When I get older I'm buying a oc-1 line and I bet it won't do more than 632Kbs. My Cable is supposedly uncapped (as far as I know) but I never get higher that 450Kbs. =( |

That's per month.
Actually that's rather cheap, could be more depending on the gear required and the physical location of the link. |

Of course that does not include the $60,000.00 per year for BOB, who will maintain the equipment for you.

Well by the time you can afford OC3, I will have the problem of getting a computer interface card that reads vibrations in string worked out, then I will be able to get all those former excite@home customers signed up and make billions by suppling internet service and voice on one lightweight line. Of course subscribers will have to supply their own styrofoam cups.
