Anyone tried Trillian?
Has anyone here tried Trillian? its a chat program that connects with icq, msn, yahoo and even irc. It gives you one interface for all the different programs, and with the newest version it has most features that they have, without the bloat.

Yeah I've tried it and thought it was good until my ISP disconnected me and it ceased to work any more. But if you don't have a troublesome ISP like me then its very useful to get rid of the multiple chat programs.

Ive used it and it seems to work pretty good, but I hardly use ICQ and MSN in comparison to AIM, and I use the direct connect and file transfer features of AIM a lot and it was a big hassle with Trillian, id have to sign off and sign back on aim whenever anyone wanted to send me anything.. so now I only use aim, and only use icq or msn when i need to talk to someone that uses one of those..
Also, another interesting chat utility u might want to take a look at is Jabber, http://www.jabber.org It is its own chat utility for virtually all operating systems, which connects to individual jabber servers, and u can talk with anyone else on that jabber server, and some servers support "transports" which (when working) allow you to connect to the aim service, ICQ service, and MSN services. check http://www.jabberview.com for a list of jabber servers and what transports they support.. The whole system is XML based and open source so there are TONS of little clients u can use... several for each operating sytem.. |

It's great. I assume it uses less resources since now I only need to run one app instead of 4 (aims, icq, microsoft passport, and yahoo). I haven't experienced any problems with it that the others are describing. It was bound to happen eventually; now what's next is all these chat programs will eventually find a standard where you can chat with others. For example users on AIMS can chat with user on Yahoo. But I read articles on how AOL is doing everything they can to prevent this from occurring.

Of course they do, that's one of the reasons they keep changing the protocols.

AIM proved to be troublesome with my network, so I removed all refernces to from my machines. I think all chats should meet a standard, so I'll boycott AIM til they support what I need in my networking, ICS specifically, meeting standards in general.
