After reading my post I figured out it was confusing so i am re-doing.
Using Win 2000 I opened one of my email inbox folders located in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{92683D48-A8EE-4C0A-A708-18B137852FB9}\Microsoft\Outlook Express trying to back it up. When I clicked the inbox file to open it, I was asked what did I want to open it with. I chose notepad and now all the files have changed to open with notepad. The i discovered on the win web site how to do it properly. See below. To make a backup copy of your Outlook Express e-mail message files: On the Tools menu, click Options . On the Maintenance tab, click Store Folder . Select the folder location, and then press CTRL+C to copy the location. Click Cancel , and then click Cancel again to close the dialog box. Click Start , and then click Run . In the Open box, press CTRL+V, and then click OK . This is as far as I got On the Edit menu, click Select All . On the Edit menu, click Copy , and then close the window. Right-click any empty space on your desktop, click New , and then click Folder . Type mail backup for the folder name, and then press ENTER. Double-click the Mail Backup folder to open it. On the Edit menu, click Paste . Close the Mail Backup window. When I went to Options, Maint, Store Folder and hit cntl c to copy the file i got a loud ding. I went to run typed in cntrl v and hit ok. I got an error. Is this due to the fact that my icon has changed from a win icon to a notepad? If so how do I change the icon back to win icon? I am using win 2k. Thanks in advance |

You can't copy the messages from within the mail client. No, it doesn't matter what they're set to open in, be it notepad or whatever else.
You have the right folder, all you need to do is copy the contents of the folder to you backup folder. If you ever need to restore the backup, copy the dbx files back over. |
