Web pages not viewing correctly
Hi, I just got a new Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop, and am having a problem viewing some web pages. Some pages come up very small, only occupying about a third of the page, while other pages come up normally. Dell support people couldn't find a problem, and referred me to my ISP. The ISP said it was a problem with the screen resolution. I can't seem to change the resolution - the computer will change it back after I reduce the resolution (its set on the max). I don't really think it is resolution anyways, otherwise why would some pages look okay? OS is Windows XP. Anyone have any ideas? I'm pretty discouraged. Thanks in advance!

How do you know its not just the way the sites are designed? The webmaster has to specifically allow the site to adjust to full screen. If they limit its size, it will appear smaller in the browser.

This will unfortunately happen sometimes if you have manually dragged a browser window to a smaller size then closed it off. I find maximizing your window by first dragging it to full screen then closing it & re-opening sometimes fixes it, but I know this is one of those quirks with IE where windows seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to sizing your browser windows.
Another interesting point is windows tends to update settings in the background randomly, particularly when the OS is idle for 20 minutes or more. Drag you border to full screen whenever you get a smaller window & leave it open for an hour or as long as possible & windows will eventually open your IE windows to the same size..hopefully.. |
