I provided the link, and waited the longest to try it myself. I messed up the Registry in the past and had a sweet, kind, lovable, beautiful, and very good-natured woman come unglued over her Gateway, so I'm hesitant in these endeavors.
Glad it worked for everyone who tried it.

WOW!
Works great!
I'm on dialup and usually connect somewhere in the mid to high 40s... I've noticed an increase in page loads! I vote for this thread to be placed in the HOF! Thanks SARGE!

Well, I tried it on a dialup and noticed little difference. But I've been using DSL so judgment may be clouded. Perhaps I forgot how long things used to load on dialup compared to the tweak.

LOL.. I went in to the registry to try this out, and what do you know.. instead of saying 2 and 4 (the windows default) they both say 99! I'm guessing I found this out earlier and wasn't satisfied with 6 and 8

When I figure out exactly what the #'s do (in layman's terms) I'll tinker with them and try different values, just to see what happens. I'm now using the suggested values.

Well, it says it can handle many more data streams, so I'm going for the gusto after this (NOT on the Dragon's Gateway, though
). I'll report back or mail 'ya.

Selected modify on each and changed the value to "a" without the quotation marks. This sets both to a 10. Now I notice a difference.

The way I understand this works is you basically make more socket connections when you access a web site so obviously get more bandwidth. Web sites will hate you but hey, tell someone who cares..
The default for windows is 2/4 versus 6/8 as suggested here. You can try higher values but need to lower the values (IMO anything higher than the windows default is BETTER) if you find graphics fail to load properly. Personally I can live w/o the odd graphic loading occassionally for the increase in speed. |

Changed values from 8/6 to 10/8. Everything's stable, but I can't tell if it's any faster. Sarge, you stated you put an "a" in for values which changes them to "10". Was this a typo? My editing box won't even accept a letter. Again, this is the best overall tweak ever!!!!

Yes, an a, then select decimal. If you put a 10, it adds to existing value (8 becomes 18). I'm no math wizzo

How do you undo the changes? I tried this trick only to find my Internet connection being slower or not transmitting at all.

Nuclear Krusader , download this program & you can select your method of connecting from the 3rd line , then down the bottom click on Optimal , then Apply .
With a bit of luck , this will sort your's out . From File , you can backup the before & after changes . TCPOptimizer from , http://www.speedguide.net/ |
