Can't connect to WWW
I just upgraded a pc to win98se and IE 6.0, but can't reach the web. Every attempt comes back with a DSN error or can't find server. I notice in my Internet Options under connection the button "Setup" is greyed out. The computer is on a lan and interracts with the other pcs but will not connect to the internet. I also am not able to ping any site through a dos box.
I have removed and added tcp/ip protocal several times. What might I be missing, and how can I get that "Setup" button activated? If I try to run "inetwiz.exe" from the [program files/internet explorer/connection wizard] folder I get an "ACCESS DENIED" warning. TIA

Wheels, Carlgif is having this problem and I had it for a few hours. We're all on a network and seems I'm seeing this problem more frequently, based on other forums. Are you using a Linksy's router? My problem began after uninstalling Zone Alarm and installing Sygate. I did the same routine as you did, including a SFC and using other browsers. DSL or dialup wouldn't budge. I reinstalled ZA and it fixed the ghost problem. To this day I haven't a clue what happened. Carl is still fighting his problem.

Nope Sarge.. wasn't using ZA on this one. I did get the "setup" button back by removing all communication progs (DUN, Phone Dialer) and re-installing them. I still couldn't get to the internet. I finally saved any valuable data and reformatted. The old PC really needed that anyway.
Thanks. |

I have that problem with Road Runner sometimes and I learned a long time a go was it was caused at their end. I finally had a technician give me the cable converter box re-authorization phone number which when you call fixes the problem.

But this was when connecting to EVERYTHING... Sprint DSL, AOL, and also a local ISP. I'm sure the problem was entirely on the computer.
