Where to obtain IE full install?
Hi gang,
I'm looking for IE 5.5 or IE 6 FULL INSTALL PACKAGE but I can't find any link on M$ website. Can someone please provide me with a link? Even the URL of the M$ ftp server would be great. TIA Felix |

Nope, I've found this too, but it gives only a link to the approx 500kB IE Installer. I need a full 17 MB package for inhouse deployment.
In addition I find it bad practice from Mickey$oft to allow any sort of buggy software to access the internet for hours and download and install any additional bugware, all unattended of course. ![]() I'm still looking for a link to the full package. |

That 500k file is the setup file. You download that file and run it, and then it will allow you to download the full package.

Do you really want to say, if you want to setup say, 10 computers, you need to download the 17 MB ten times?

There's got to be a better way. I recently built a computer and IE5.5 came on the motherboard installation disk.

buying a mobo just for getting a CD can't be the solution either...
I'm looking exactly for the content that is shipped on a CD, but for download from the web. Not to mention that, if I ask M$ for a CD, they will charge $20 for a CD (first pay, then receive), while its content is free on the net. *sigh* |

After you download the 17MB and install IE there will be a folder called "Windows Update Setup Files" in your C: drive. That will have all the files you need to install. Windows puts it there in case you need to reinstall. It will have a text file in it called "This is safe to delete.txt"

Nope, since the IE installer checks for required files and downloads only the required files, the contents of this folder will only work on that particular installation of Windozze. What if you move these files to another machine, or, even more bad, to a new install of windozze on the same puter?

I've done it that way before with no problems. When IE 5.5 was really buggy I downloaded IE 5.01 SP1, put it on a disk and used it on all the house's computers (I was paranoid that they would never fix it). It will write over the older IE stuff. And the newer IE components will be available throught the IE setup program or windows update.

ok jon, I gave it a try. It is a bit tricky if I just want to download, not yet install. I've finally did it twice, one time on my usual system (16.9 MB) and one time on a (swap disk out, swap disk in) "clean" system with Win98SE only (18.7 MB)... imagine...
However it installed fine (full install on the clean system). Then I was looking for Frontpage Express but couldn't find it... *sigh* |

Here's an easy way to create a full version of IE on a CD or any other type of removable media.1) Download the ie5setup.exe 2) Execute it and on the first prompt choose "minimal install" and click on next. Then click on "Advanced" and select "Download Only". 3) Click on Next and then Next again. 4) You should see a box labeled "Folder TO Download Installations Files". Change it to c:\windows\desktop\IE5.5 (or any other name you want). Click on Next. It will now tell you that the folder does not exist and offer to create it for you. Say Yes and let it create it for you on the desktop. Now it will download all of the components to that folder. 5) Once it's finished downloading, copy the contents of the folder to a CD or Zip Disk and you've got your full version of IE! The only way this doesn't work is if you have a newer version, say IE6, on the PC that you are trying to run the IE5.5 SP2 setup on to create the CD. It won't even let you past the first prompt in this instance because it thinks you are trying to install an older version of IE overtop of itself. I have done this many times without any problems. Hope it helps. KW1 |

Try this, you should get be able to get any version of I.E. It will say Windows 95 at top, but it works for all OS platforms. HTH
