ATTbi and STMP

Well we've basically finished our move out of Lansing (yippie!). Unfortunatly, where our new house is in Grand Rapids the only broadband option I have is AT&T cable. Setup was easy and the connection seems decent -- faster than my previous dsl but not as quick to respond to requests.

But I've got one fairly good sized problem -- I can't send attachments via e-mail. I've configured my mail program correctly (Netscape 6.2), at least according to their members services page -- but AT&Tbi is no help because they do not support Netscape. From what I can tell, this problem occurs with and without our Linksys router in the mix. I've tried releasing the IP/DHCP (via the router), I've disconnected the modem, I've tried everything I've read to try and troubleshoot a cable connection.

Anyone have any ideas?

A few other interesting tidbits that might be related to this:

I can't get a completed speed test done at dslreports.com. I checked the verbose box to see exactly what is being done and half way through this test (during an upload), everything stops. Could there be sever epacket loss?

I checked my RWIN and MTU settings on dslreports as well. RWIN looks okay, but MTU seems stuck on 1476 according to their site but according to their tweaker program dr.tcp, my MTU is 1500. So I decided to ping dslreports.com with various sized packets AFTER making sure my MTU was 1500 in my registry. I couldn't send out anything over 1472 (which was my MTU when I had DSL). I can't find anything in my router that would be holding these packets back, so it's got ot be in my registry, right? But where, and is this related to not being able to send attachments?

Just noticed the mispelling in the title of my thread

To update -- I cannot get my MTU to change to 1500. The best I can do is 1472. I've uninstalled the NIC drivers, I've gotten into the registry and changed all MaxMTU settings to 1500, I've played with various RWIN settings, but still cannot: 1) get my MTU up to 1500 and 2) send anything with an attachment (or a large file -- basically it craps out when the packet size doesn't gel with AT&Tbi).

Here's what happens when I send an e-mail as described above:

After hitting send, the % bar will stop someplace around 30% -- but I can see through ZoneAlarm's Summary of byte's sent that my computer is trying to send loads of information, but can't. Then I get a timed out message.

HELP!!!!
