Wireless internet
Greetings,
I currently have a dial-up internet service. The fastest that I'm able to connect is 28.8. In the rural area of Texas that I live in, an electric co-op is now offering wireless at the price of approx. $500.00 for equip. & hook-up plus $50.00 per mo. The ph. co. has said that dsl will be offered soon. The people that I have talked to that have the wireless are very happy with it. From what I can gather, the final cost will be basically the same. Any guidance you nice people can offer will be appreciated. Thanks |

I have been using wireless service for about two weeks and have had no problems with it yet (knock on wood). I had to pay $200.00 for a service contract and $50.00 a month for service. This thread has more info about wireless service.

Lil Jimmie,
Did you purchase the equip. or lease it? The equip. and installing it costs $500.00 with the co-op. I have not contacted them to see if it is possible for me to supply equip. and install it. I don't know if this would be a good move even if the co-op would allow it. Any thoughts? Thanks |

Sydney, My ISP owns the equipment, the $200.00 was basically for the install of the equipment. My ISP offers three different service contracts, $500.00 for one year, $300.00 for a two year and $200.00 for three year. If I move anywhere in the service area they will transfer the equipment at no cost to me. If I move out of the service area they will not bind me to the contract and just retrieve the equipment from my property. If there is any failure of the equipment they will fix and or replace it at no cost to me.
I would contact the ISP and find out all of the details about the service if this is something you are considering. |
