TCP/IP componets
My mother in law purchased an old computer I believe it is a 486. she tried to load net zero on it and it gave her the following error message--
network componets are not installed TCP/IP. Setup will now exit. Can anyone tell me what's going on and how I can fix it. She is limited on incoome and that is why she decided to use netzero. Thanks, Tom |

Under Control pannel, networking, you have to have a dial up and a TCP/IP protocal installed.

Hi Tom,
YOU MUST HAVE THE CAB FILES ON THE HARD DRIVE OR THE WINDOWS CD BEFORE PROCEEDING! Click on MY COMPUTER>CONTROL PANEL>NETWORKS and you will see a list of network components installed. For Dialup access the only three you need are Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial Up Adapter and TCP/IP. You can safely remove everything else. To add a component such as TCP/IP, click on ADD then PROTOCOL then MICROSOFT and finally TCP/IP. when all of the components are loaded, make Client For Microsoft Networks the Primary Network Logon, (under the add button) and click OK. The computer will build a driver database, copy files and then ask you to restart. When you restart the first time it will bring up a NETWORK LOGON box before the desktop appears. Enter something in the USER NAME box and LEAVE THE PASSWORD BLANK and then click OK. You should be fine from there. |
