With one telephone line in the house and using 56k modem how can I not miss any calls if I am logged to the internet? I use to have telephone answering service which came to $96 a year plus $20 service fee. It worked great but I wonder if there is a more economical way since I don't get that many calls. Thanks.

List the mfg/model/chipset/type (PCI, ISA, External) of your modem, and we can probably find you an init string that will hang up your modem if a call is detected.

I use Hotcall.
Hotcall site I have seen these at Staples before. When someone calls, the Hotcall rings. You can answer the phone you plug into it. If you hang up within 8-10 seconds, you do not lose your internet connection. If you want to continue the call, just keep talking and the internet will disconnect. All there is is the one time hardware cost. You do need call-waiting from the phone company also. |

Every modem I have ever had, both ISA and PCI internal modems, have rung through to the phone when online and a call is coming in. That is with callwaiting, of course. So, if you have call waiting, you may just want to give that a try.

No, an init string simply hangs up the modem when a call is detected, so you can answer the phone.
Try this: S202=32S95=1S10=1 |

It didn't work. Do I have to precede your init string with "AT" or any other combination letter or numbers? Where will I find these string info for different purposes? Thanks.
