error problem
i ask once before about this and didn't find any answers, maybe there isn't any.
anyway when i close out a program i get this"microsoft internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" i close this and then get"this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down if problem persists contact the program vendor" i close this and every thing seems to work ok till i close out the next program, then the same thing.i have personel computer i built, windows 98,900mz amd,256 memory, cdrom and cdrw.i upgraded? to ie6.0 thought it might help but if anything it's worse, occasionally it doesn't happen but almost always does.the details from illegal operation mean nothing to me they say"registors eax=1150000 and a bunch of others then bytes at cs:eip: stack dump 70250daba 11500000 7025 daro 00431 fe8 7028 ag "and several others which i don't understand,is this a registory problem? or what.

Raftero,
Could be many things but I suspect more on the software side. The next time you get an illegal operation write down everything and post it or visit the Microsoft Knowledge base for help. Edrod13

raftero, download and run startlog.com and then copy and paste the contents of the text file it creates to your reply here so we can have a look:

What don't you know how to do? Is it copy and paste? Download the Startlog.com file from the link I gave into a folder and doubleclick on it. When it runs it'll create a notepad text file on your desktop called Startlog. Open it and at the top of it click 'edit' then click 'select all' then click 'edit' again then click 'copy'. Then come here and reply to your post. In the reply window where you type right click anywhere in there and select paste to paste the text into it.
What I was wanting to see was if you had any spyware or viruses in your system. They can both cause the type of problem you're having, especially spyware and the startlog file will show if you have any. Spyware or a virus may not be your problem but it's worth checking into. |

A corrupt cookie or Temporary Internet File can also cause this. Go to C:/WINDOOWS/TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES and delete everything there. Then go to the cookies folder and delete those. Finally go to C:/WINDOOWS/TEMP and delete all of those. Then open Internet Explorer and click on TOOLS>INTERNET OPTION and in the Temporary Internet Files section click on DELETE FILES put the check mark in DELETE OFFLINE CONTENT and click OK. Then click on the settings button in the Temporary Internet Files section and set the reserved Hard Drive space to 10MB. Close Internet Explorer and then open it again. Let me know if this helps.

Well that's good but the error you're getting can be caused by all kinds of things not just internet explorer but you might be right, it might be something to do with IE itself in your case. However if IE were the problem you would think that the upgrade you did to IE 6 should have fixed it. I was kinda hoping the startlog would show you had some spyware then this would be really easy but you don't have any so I don't really know what else to tell you. But you said this:
"azscary i tried and it didn't work, sure appreciate it anyway, that might have been the trouble." Can you clear that up a bit? Are you saying that you deleted all that stuff he mentioned and you still get the error or are you saying that when you tried to delete that stuff you weren't able to delete them? That's important to know. Were you able to delete your temporary internet files or will they not let you delete them for some reason? If your temporary internet files won't delete then your TIF folder is corrupt and that could cause your problem but it's an easy fix. Also, you're getting the Iexplore illegal error when closing internet explorer right? When you're getting the error how many IE browser windows do you have open at that time? Is it just one or is there a few open? Do you happen to have outlook express open and running in the background when the error occurs when you close internet explorer? i was abel to clear all temp files etc. the error occurs when closing any program i am on,email ,pc mech or any other when i close the error message appears.this about in the background,is that the programs you see when wou alt ctrl delete?if it is then outlook exp is not running,i'm not sure what some of them are but they are explorer, pop3trap,rnaapp,incd,wzqkkpick,ticicon,systray,pcciomon.

Do you know what wzqkkpick is? (Does anyone else know what it is?) Do you have that spelled right? I couldn't find any info on it and it looks suspiciously like a trojan to me. It might be harmless though. If it were a trojan your Startlog should show it and it doesn't so it's probably not a trojan. But update your virus definitions and run a virus scan and see if it detects anything.
Click start--find--files and search for wzqkkpick.exe, assuming you have that spelled right. When found right click on it and select Properties. Under the Version tab does it give a company name and does it say what it is in the description? Also, what folder is wzqkkpick.exe located in? Try this. Close all browser windows and then do a ctrl + alt + del and 'end task' on both incd and wzqkkpick. Then open internet explorer or a program that gives the error when you close it and see if the error still appears. Last edited by Kento; 03-06-2002 at 12:27 AM. |

I think wzqkkpick is a new little add-on of Win Zip called quick pick that gets loaded in your systray, I hate things in my tray so I deleted it without checking what it does.

Yeah i'm basically out of ideas except for removing and reinstalling internet explorer.
You could do a ctrl + alt + del and end task on 'ticicon' as well and see if that program is the cause. Last edited by Kento; 03-08-2002 at 09:05 PM. |

error problem
Hello raftero,
Sorry but I'm late responding to your posting. I was going to say that for that problem it seems that downloading IE 6 in another directory will fix the problem. Since you have already found an answer to your problem you won't need to do it ![]() Downloading IE in the same directory than the other one only keep the problems going. I'm working as a Helpdesk Tech (sniff...sniff...poor me) and everyday I see that kind of problems with IE. We can not do too much for that but we recommend to update IE and to put it in another directory. IERADICATOR is probably the best solution. I will recommend that to my clients.... Take care Remain free spirited, the rest is too expensive... |
