ie keeps freezing up?
I'm using msn explorer now, which stinks. I want to use internet explorer but it takes forever to load a page or just freezes up, and each time I run into a pop-up it comes up in IE and I have to close it using ctrl+alt+del. I started out with version 5.0, then I downloaded and installed version 6.0 hoping it might fix the problem and it didn't. I've tried using a program named IEradicator which blows out whatever version of ie you have, and then reloaded version 5 and still have the same problem. from what I've been reading it's most likely to have something to do with the registry setting (and that's me talking out of my ass) I don't even know what they're talking about when someone says registry. Any advice?
Also, I'm really trying to soak up as much information as I can. Is there any prerequisites to trying to learn a programing language? I'm just a tinkerer right now, but don't plan on staying like that, any basic skills I should try to hone first or just dive right in? I found a place to download java and it has step by step tutorials and such. And do I want to start with java, or some other programing language? |

How much memory do you have, IE is a hog, anything less than 128mb is just asking for trouble. Also how much disk space do you have set for Temp Internet Files, for me about 200mb works good. Try Deleteing Temp Internet files and cookies. Also clear the history. When these files are full IE does strange things. Tells us more about your system specs.

Yeah, looks like I'm seriously lacking in the memory department. I've got 63mb of ram operating at 56%. I do clean out temp internet files, cookies, and the history every other day or so. I keep 300mb free for temp internet files. This may also explain another problem I was having with winME taking over huge amounts of my hard drive when I had too many task going for it to keep up...maybe, at least I think that's what cricket was trying to say in a previous thread of mine(hope I didn't misunderstand or misquote you cricket). Well, I know my first step is to read up on how to free up memory and what virtual memory is. If anybody has some real drool proof advice on how to go about it that's great, but I kinda like to figure out stuff on my own too. (you can't learn a whole lot if everybody answers all your questions for you) And I'm sure I'll be going out and buying some more ram on top of that. Thanks a lot people.

I'm supprised that you dont have more problems with only 56% available. add another 128mb you will see a BIG difference in your machine speed as well as stability. How much do you have running in the back groud? do a Ctrl / Alt / Delete and see what is running, all that has to be is Explorer and systray. usually you will have about 8 or 10 things running if you have an Anti virus program going. anymore than that is really too much.
