When I try to connect to the interenet I get the following error.
Error 676: The phone line is busy Redial--Cancel--More Info More Info: How to set your redial options Earthlink DSL Using WinXP Pro PPPOE software Linksys 10/100 PCI NIC Any ideas what might be causing this and how I can go about fixing it? If needed I can provide a detailed list of what happened prior to the problem occuring. In a nutshell, got online after work, D/Led WinXP critical updates, got offline, got back online later, got kicked off, tried to get back on and received the error above. Thanks, Cirerrek

Well after about three phone calls and one online chat session with Earthlink's tech support reps, I am finally back on line. Seems that Linksys NICs and Elink's network don't get along at times. Ended up having to change the Media type on the NIC from AutoSense Mode to 10Base-T mode in the Device Manager. Something about problems with the Full Duplexing Mode. I gather that 10Base-T really doesn't slow your surfing down, but it would slow down a home network. Oh well, sounds like they also have the same problem with 3Com modems to a lesser extent than Linksys, with Netgear having the least problems of this type, at least according to this tech reps experience. At $14 or so, guess I'll be picking myself up a Netgear NIC. Funny, just got my $10 mail-in-rebate back from Linksys for the NIC, that means I only have to cough up $4
Cheers, Cirerrek |

dsl error 676 in Win XP
Hi,
When you're using a DSL connection and you have a dialup box connection appearing you can go to: Control Panel Internet Options Connection and there verify if you have a dot on: Always Dial my Default Connection. If the dot is there you need to put it on: Never Dial a Connection.
