Cable Modem connection speeds
My cable modem gives me download speeds of a maximum about 70kb/s, and upload is like 30 kb/s. But I have noticed when using direct connect and other file share p2p programs that if a dl starts at like 50kb/s, it will gradually slow down to about 30-20 kb/s after a couple of miniutes. Then if I cancel it and resume the same thing happens.
My cable modem is running through usb. I was wondering if this could be causing a problem, and if I would be better to get an ethernet card. Any help appreciated, Regards Rich Tomlin |

I would use ethernet if it was me. Check your cable modem at www.pcpitstop.com. My WIN98 PC showed vastly improved performance after using the tweak.

i have a cable and i love it cause i get download speeds that have been pushed to 800kb/s. that number was through a download upload meter and it was the average. i know it can go higher but i just couldnt find files fast enough, honestly taht day i downloaded over 2 gigs in stuff. my upload is skectchy though, maybe 15kb/s on a good day. dang caps. oh well. my cable goes through a 3com pci ethernet card, works like a charm, never had any problems in 2 years..
