greedo Why doesn't anyones avantar appear on my PC?

Hi everyone,

I just wondered why peoples avantars don't appear on my PC on PC Mech. There is a little white box with a red cross in it instead. The only avantar that appears is the american flag or the UN flag. Has something been disabled in the explorer settings? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi spicychicken,

Go to your Profile and the the Edit Options. Part way down there is a section titled Thread View Options. Under this is an option to View User's Avatars in Their Posts. Make sure this is set to yes. HTH.

i've got a question about avantars... how do i get my own. i see some people have cool ones, and other people have the flag or that other generic one that is offered.

I think you have to have 1,000 posts before you can customize your avatar. Otherwise your limited to the flag, the UN symbol, or nothing.

That is not an efficient use of this forum. Many of are not "computer guru's" - some of just happen to have some experience with computers and a very large amount of the info we share here is learned from this site. Many users started out as you (including I) with little knowledge concerning computers and in their spare time read the posts here and asked questions. I urge you to do the same. Having a custom avatar is kind of a reward for having taken the time to try and help others in the same way you were/are through posts.

Sorry, if I come off a little rough here - just think running up your posts as you suggested is a waste of time for the members of this forum and the site.

Brent

I'm not a "guru" by any stretch of the imagination, but I've been a member here for some time now and I've learned a lot by reading lots of threads. Over time, I found that I knew the answers to many questions (because I had read it before or because I had encountered the same problem when I started building PC's) but was hesitant to post an answer...didn't want to make a fool of myself .

I started posting answers to questions about a year ago (luckily, no one made fun of me) and I just kept at it, helping people as best I could. And I'm still learning a lot here (I pay attention when I see posts from HAL9000, DrZaius, glc, reboot, SARGE, LawyerRon, Xayd, morriswindgate, etc...). I find that helping other builders also help me because it's like I'm there troubleshooting the problem too and I have to really think about the problem in order to come up with a good suggestion.

If you have time to help others, I feel you will also benefit from it. Before you know it, you'll have your 1000 posts and can display a private avatar .

Cricket, you've answered alot of my questions the short time I've been here and I can honestly say you have achieved "Guru" status in my books right alongside many of the others you listed.
