what are protected files that are in recycle bin?

Have norton system works 2002 and in my recycle bin it has tons of protected files. I did not delete these files they just appear there and stay there unless i delete them. what are protected files and is it safe to delete them? Thanks.

I empty mine about once a month. As best I can tell its another fail safe, just incase you accidentally delete something you can recover it and restore. Seems like I read that the oldest entries roll off as new ones are added.

If you right click on your "Norton Protected Recycle Bin", and select Properties, you'll see a tab named Norton Protection. You can configure what is protected and for how long there.

In reality, all Norton Protection does is bloat your hard drive. When I first installed Norton I allowed it to enable protection -- after a while I noticed a system wide slowdown as the amount of protected files grew. I looked as these files and saw they were internet temp files, cache files, and a lot of other crap that Norton thought that I might at some point need -- I quickly figured out how to disable Norton Protection.
