hi, i'm using the speedstream ethernet dsl modem that came free with my earthlink dsl account. it lights up indicating the dsl is active and it's connected fine with my nic card. i used the xp network connection wizard, checked all the properties. but everytime i try to connect, i get the error 678, the remote computer did not connect.
i read a link that i should maybe try limiting my 3com card to 10 base. i'll try that... does anyone else have a suggestion on what is going wrong? p.s. i've tried reconnecting the modem a hundred times, and i've tried redoing the network connection a hundred times as well as making certain i have all the proper cables going. the one thing i haven't tried is throwing my box out the window thanks for any assistance |

Have you installed the Earthlink software? The last time I installed Earthlink DSL I needed to install their software first and then spoof the MAC address of the NIC in the router. Even if you are not using a router you may need their software installed to establish a connection the first time.

their software did not detect my nic card. so would only offer
setting up for a dial-up connection. i will be going to their site to see if they have a version more compatable with xp |
