Havn't tried them, but saw these recommended before:

http://www.myrealbox.com/
http://www.emailaddresses.com/email_pop.htm

You can also check Hotmail mail through Outlook Express (only).

I use www.gmx.net , it's a German site with POP3 support, and it's free.

In my experience a lot of the free web based addresses start charging even though they initially promised not to. myrealbox has been arround for a while. I used to have onebox.com, which was the best one I've had but then they started charging, alot. After that I switched to two other web based e mail addresses, but again both started charging. I'm stuck now with an msn and a yahoo account, but you should also take a look at mail2world.com

Well www.gmx.net does offer free pop mail but after I filled all the information it turns out that I have to mail them a letter with my address in 14 days in order for them not to cancel my email address. I don’t really feel that I should have to send a letter to Germany just to have a free email address.

Its funny that you mentioned www.myrealbox.com because that’s were i opened an account after the other failed… They seem to be really strict if you spam with that email account. Its says that they charge $10 per email sent spamming Not that it matters because I’m not spamming..

My first email account was Yahoo but I can’t even use it anymore. I receive about 500 emails a day from just spam and I don’t feel that I should have to sort thru the mail looking for real mail… After that I went to Hotmail. Thursdays are the only days that I don’t connect and on Friday when I check my mail I have about 130 letters or pure spam. I need an address were I just real letters and not a lot of junk… The other thing that I don’t like about hot mail is that I have to use Outlook Express. I know I can use other programs so I can access my hotmail mail with any email client but they never seem two work since I have apache running on my system and they are slow.

What do you guys think about the spam mail were it has an option that says if you want to unsubscribe click here? Does that work? Or is that just like confirming that your email address exists and they end up selling it to some one?

Well, regarding spam and junk mail; at most I'll get about 2-3 of them a week in my inbox. I have set up other accounts just for signing up to websites (not pcmech though ) and when I download programs that require an e mail address. The only people who know my address are friends, so I basically just try to keep my main account as secretive as possible, and its working. The few junk e mails I do happen to get, I just block their address and never hear from them again. I have an msn account btw, and only couldn't log on for a few hours once in over six months.

I have several accounts - and myrealbox is totally spam-free. Mine is the IMAP option but they have POP3.

Cool Thanks glc
I'll give them a try in the AM. BTW Guys I had a heck of a spam problem with hotmail via outlook exp,I started using mailwasher and within one week my box was nothing but mail I wanted to receive. Alot of people don't think when they sign up for stuff online my wife has to be about #2 offender for free this and survey that.So like what was said above.. get a yahoo mailbox and use that for your crap mail.

Here is a link to an article from pcmag which is pretty good on spam and how to try to stop it. Personally I have three pop3 addys that we got from our isp and 5 web based email addys. I DON'T do freebies. I only use the pop3's for business/family mail and I use mailwasher. The web based email gets the spam and I use the yahoo bulk folder to try to catch most of it. Spam is hard to get away from but can be done with work. Try using filters with pop3 accounts.
