Hi everyone,
Does anyone know of any good free email accounts apart from Hotmail? Maybe ones that don't attract so much SPAM?? TIA

the reciveing of spam has nothing to do with whick mail account you are useing, when ever you regester anything, or do anything that requires your e-mail address, it goes into a database list that is sold to spammers, that is how they make money.
so is a singel word, don't give your e-mail address to anyone but personal friends and family, and you won't get as much spam. about all you can do now is to make a small change on it and spam will stop, untill you get back on the list. |

Most of what bailey said is true; however, the e-mail account you choose can have a small impact on how much spam you get.
Spammers don't just harvest e-mail addresses from various sources, they also just make them up and hope some of them are real. Hotmail, being one of the largest, is a frequent target of this. Generate any random name or combination, like stevenmiller, and it is quite likely that stevenmiller@hotmail.com will be an active e-mail address. It is much less likely, though, that stevenmiller@somepodunkisp.net will be one, so spammers stay away from less known domains. All in all, however, it won't make a huge amount of difference. Usually your ISP will give you at least one e-mail address with your account. If you are concerned about changing ISPs and thus e-mail addresses, use a forwarding service. |

I seem to get less spam at Yahoo than Hotmail. But if you're getting alot of spam at Hotmail then simply abandon the account and create a new one then you won't get any spam, at least not for some time.

One other thing that i thought I should throw in is that if (I know it's this way in yahoo!) you have your e-mail account set so everyone can find it in the main directory, then you are going to get spam for sure. I made that mistake once with Yahoo and I will never do it again.

Hi spicychicken
Go to the OPTIONS menue at the top of your hotmail account when you log in, and choose under MAIL HANDLING, JUNK MAIL FILTER, AND SAFE LIST. The junk mail filter keeps unwanted mail from reaching your Inbox, and the Safe list means any address you have listed in your address book will not be filter as junk. This is better than having more than one account, I have a couple of accounts and find I only pay atterntion to one. Also any mail that is filter to junk you don't have to open because after 7 days hotmail automatically deletes them. Hope this helps,God bless and have a nice Easter holiday.
