Saving Unsavable Web Pages
How do I save a web page to disk when:
1. the the File menu has "Save" and "Save As" blanked out 2. the right mouse button has been disabled so I can't select text 3. the web page is bigger than one screen (can't use a screen capture program) and 4. I can't find anything meaningful in the temporary files? I end up having to print those web pages and then scanning them to disk (I also print-to-file), but is there a better way? |

Is the material copyright protected? Usually people dont go to extensive methods of preventing saving, unless they want to be sure that no one takes it off them without permission. If it is then it would be nicer to honor it.

You can use a screen capture program like SnagIt. It does not matter that the page is bigger than the screen, Snagit has autoscroll.

If the page wont let u save then they have probarly protected their work, You find this quite often with images on the web as well.
One way around this might be to view the source of the page - select view, then select view source. The html code to the web page should open up in Notepad - you can now save this file as a text file. To view it as web page simply change file extension to htm or html. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the information about SnagIt's autoscroll feature. I gotta read the instructions more carefully!
I'm having trouble with a financial website, www.vanguard.com. I want to put a copy of each transaction on disk, but with windows where the right mouse button is disabled, I can't capture them with SnagIt except as a graphics images. When I try text mode, SnagIt either gives me an error message or captures only a few characters. |

I'm having trouble with a financial website, www.vanguard.com. I want to put a copy of each transaction on disk instead of just print it and then scan the print, but with windows where the right mouse button is disabled, I can't capture them with SnagIt, except as a graphics images. When I try text mode, SnagIt either gives me an error message or captures only a few characters. I can understand the desire to protect copyrighted material, but I just want to have copies of every agreement I sign and every receipt, and no other financial website I've used has been so restrictive. |
