Opera Problems
Hi all,
I have used all 3 of the 'major' browsers, IE, Netscape, and Opera. Liked Netscape 6.2, but it died and couldn't be revived (was working flakily, anyhow). Have mosty used IE for the 2+ years I have been on the web, and regardless of what others say, have found it fast, stable, and, generally problem-free. I have recently begun trying Opera (mostly based on suggestions from others here). Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it definitely seems slower than IE, and much worse, when I try to post to PC Mech using Opera, it freezes! There are things I like about it, though, so I would appreciate any suggestions that might fix these problems. Thanks in advance. |

I have the same problems with Opera. In most cases, IE 6.0 is faster.
I was having a problem with IE 6.0 earlier. I was getting a ton of Application Errors but later discovered that it was a problem with my Antivirus (Panda Platinum). For some reason, I can't get Panda to work with IE 6.0 Now I just web browse with the Antivirus turned off and my load times are a fast! It was the Antivirus that was slowing things down. I have a cable modem so everything loads fast anyway but the browser is ten times faster with the Antivirus turned off. Opera is faster now too but IE is still more stable/faster. Don't know if it will work for you but have you tried using your browser(s) with the Antivirus closed out?

I use this Free browser , which has a built in pop up stopper .
Uses very little resources & is as good as any other browser . Intergrates quitely into your system , does not take over . you can still run your normal browser , if you wish . http://www.crazybrowser.com/ |

Update
Hi all,
An update to this issue. Just downloaded and installed Opera 6.01. MUCH faster than 5, and, seemingly so far, than IE. Also problem with posting here was solved by the upgrade. Hope this helps. |
