free hosting?!?
whatever happened to the good old days when you could make a real site for free. when i started using HTML there were great servers with little or no advertising. now homestead and geocities are charging (or they have no good features) ... the internet is a madhouse now

i am not a fan of pop ups... but i use www.tripod.com anyway. they gave me 50 megs of space for free (actually, when i started a few years ago, they gave me two megs and i was like "whoa!" and they've slowly upgraded without me having anything to do with it). tripod allows frontpage extensions and all of that for free. and it also supports ftp programs.
www.freewebz.com is another site that offers free hosting, with no pop up windows or advertisment whatsoever. i don't know how much space they give, but i do know they don't allow anything over 600K to get uploaded and they don't support ftp unless you pay extra.

another thing with tripod:
you can put some javascript into the index that will get rid of the popup. if you check out my profile, and go to my site, you will see that i was too lazy to do this. but if you click on the camaro link, click on other cars, then click on sofia's prelude, you'll see what i'm talking about. that link takes you to my friend's site where you can actually see the script in action as a pop up window pop's then goes away. |
