Hi, my homepage is stuck on a piece of spam (dont click this or even go near it!)newtopsites.com/search.html and I can't seem to get rid of it.
I've cleared my temp internet folders deleting all cookies, cleared my history, looked through my reg, and swept my machine with Ad Aware with the latest update. Everytime I switch my hompage back to 'use blank' from tools - internet options, the site just seems to come back. The only way I'm able to stop it is by using an advanced rule in AdSubtract popup killer but I know that somewhere in my machine that darn link is still lurking. Is there any other way that can I get rid of this very annoying problem? Please help, thank you. ps. Win Me if that makes any difference |

Right click on the Internet Explorer Icon and bring up the properties. Click on the Programs Tab and at the bottom of that tab you will see a button labeled "Reset Web Connections" Then go to the "General Tab> Click on the Settings button and then the View Files and then select all and delete everything. Now close this window and return to the general tab page and clear history by clicking the clear history button. At the top of the General Tab Page make sure that Home Page is set to where you want it.

Do you see a line similiar to this in msconfig under the startup tab: (start--run--msconfig)
C:\Windows\regedit.exe /s C:\Windows\System\radD2C4B.tmp If so uncheck it and then search for and delete the rad.xxxxx.tmp file shown in your msconfig. If it's there it won't necessarily be exactly the same file name as the one I have shown above but it will be a rad.tmp file. If that's no help download and run Startlog.com from the link below. It'll create a text file on your desktop. Copy and paste the contents of Startlog to your reply here. It may or may not show us something. http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Ret...d/Only_IE.html Last edited by Kento; 04-05-2002 at 02:24 AM. |

Thanks alot you guys, all 3 of your posts helped alot (and The Old Man's link is a great bookmark for later).
Well I did manage to get rid of it from your help, back to my own homepage, and I'm looking good. I stopped AdSubtract's advanced rule just to make sure, all's well. I love you guys, this forum is THE best. Cheers =) |

Glad to see your problem's been fixed, jsndean. This happened to me too awhile back, and I was able to fix it. But I didn't want it to happen again. I found a lil program called StartPage Guard. It's pretty cool, and free.
http://www.pjwalczak.com/spguard/index.php You set your startpage on it. And if the startpage changes, it pops up a little box notifying you of the change. If you don't want that new startpage, it will reset it back to your chosen one. |
