IE 6 Problems- Please Help

Hi all, I Just found this site and i hope someone can help me out.

I have Windows XP Pro installed with IE6 and a NTL Cable Modem. Protecting the system i have Norton Personnel Firewall and IE seetings are set to medium.

On 60% of all websites i get a cannot find server message. On windows Update I get 2 problems.
1) Windows Update gets to 75% and stops working.
2) It gets to 100% with updates and generates a cannot find server message when any link is clicked.

I have reset the Defaults in IE6, Set the Temp folder to 10MB, Deleted all files in Temp Internet Folder including cookies. Cleared Downloaded programs list all to no avail evan a reinstall of XP never worked.

Any Help Appreciated.

Have you tried disabling the firewall during updating?

You need more than 10mb of temp space - set it to 1.5 times the largest file you anticipate downloading. I usually set IE temp to 50mb on the systems I set up. The default is ridiculous though - I agree.

SAS the problem is with NTL. They are having terrible trouble with their proxy servers right now. They won't admit this though. All you need to do is go to your proxy setting. If there is nothing configured, then your proxy will be your franchise. The worst right now seems to be Cardiff. YOu need to configure a better proxy. A suitable one is...
